   Once, a teacher conducted an interesting activity in her class. Handing each one of her students a blank piece of paper and some colourful crayons, she asked them to draw a tree and make it as beautiful as possible in the given time.
   
    When the activity was completed, the teacher collected all the paintings and began observing each one of them individually, praising the students for their work. 
  Ultimately, sorting out two drawings from the fifty beautiful ones, she proclaimed them as the winners for creating the most beautiful trees. 

    This confused the class because these winning drawings were quite plain as compared to the other entries. 
   
     The reason, as the teacher then explained, was--

"I truly appreciate the way all of you put in your creative elements to make the trees look beautiful. From adding fruits, flowers, birds and orchids to painting a vivid sky and background to make them stand out- each one of you put in your best. However, except these two, the rest of you forgot the most important part of your tree-- its root. Without a root, the tree itself won't stand, no matter how much you put in to beautify it." 

     The class  listened in awe as the lesson began seeping in. 

"This, my dear students, is similar to the beauty and happiness in your life. We put in so much of our efforts to make the exterior look extravagant that we often tend to ignore our inner roots- One that binds us to our true inner beauty, which in turn, leads to true happiness."
